How to clone a mammoth (the science & ethics of de-extinction)

Recently, the popular press seems to have embraced the idea that it is now possible to bring extinct animals back to life. The unfortunate (or fortunate?) truth is that they are wrong; once a species has gone extinct, it will continue to remain so -- at least for now. Dr. Beth Shapiro will discuss why we can't yet bring extinct species back to life. She will outline the science that needs to be developed in order to make this possible, and consider the environmental and ethical consequence of de-extinction, should it eventually be something we can accomplish.
