Electricity: It's Alive

Robert Porter will spend a few minutes taking some of the mystery out of
electricity. Many people find this awesome power to be incomprehensible. It's
invisible and you cannot taste it. But when you get shocked you know it! It
powers our Prius and our brains. Porter will talk about the few elements that will
make the fundamentals seem, well, fundamental. He says he will put the fun
back in fundamentalism. As each concept became clear a few centuries back,
each idea was immortalized with the name of the main "bringer of light", names
like Volta, Ohm and Ampere. Today this powerful force of nature is so taken for
granted that it is at the basis of every modern industrial innovation. But we still
stand back for fear of it if we're smart. Fred will embellish the presentation with
his own unique contribution. There will be a couple astounding
demonstrations, too!
