Robots With Common Sense for Production Environments

The IT revolution has given us consumer devices, from phones, to search engines, to physically interactive games, that use intelligence to make inferences and operate effectively in a complex dynamic world. That level of intelligence has largely been absent from the factory floor, with a much more traditional top down command and control model being the norm. New classes of devices, including safe, easy to integrate, interactive production robots are starting to change that picture. This talk will report on some recent advances in this arena, and map out possible future developments if enough researchers can be inspired to work in this area.
