PFC Contaminants in Soil Ecosystems

A wide range of pollutants enter the environment directly or indirectly via human activities. Soil as a terrestrial reservoir plays an important role in these pollutants' fate and toxic effects.  These contaminants can enter the food chain and impair the quality of water and food.  Dr. Zareitalabad's research focuses on perfluorinated compounds (PFCs), which can enter the soil via contaminated fertilizers made from treated sewage sludge.  Come learn more about the sometimes surprising results of her research into these pollutants.  Everyone is welcome to participate in a discussion of how these compounds impact the health of our environment.
