The Ecological Predicament of Humankind
Craig Dilworth of Uppsala University, Sweden, the author of the profound book "Too Smart for Our Own Good: The Ecological Predicament of Humankind" will give a presentation based on his book at the Oakland Humanist Hall. Dr. Dilworth demonstrates that humankind's development consists of an accelerating movement from situations of scarcity, to technological innovation, to increased resource availability, to increased consumption, to population growth, to resource depletion and then to scarcity once again, in a circle from the dawn of humanity and continuing today.  In the development of this thesis Dr. Dilworth depended heavily on the anthropological assessment of early hunter-gatherer and agricultural societies.
