Science Saturday: Native Fish - Reintroducing Aquatic Animals to Mountain Lake

Join Darren Fong and Jon Young to learn more about the past, present, and future of aquatic animal life at Mountain Lake. Darren and Jon will demonstrate sampling techniques used to inventory aquatic animals, describe the ecological effects of non-native fish and turtles, and discuss reintroduction plans for native species like the Western Pond Turtle and the Three-spined Stickleback.

Darren Fong is the Aquatic Ecologist for the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and a collaborator with the Presidio Trust on the restoration of the aquatic community at Mountain Lake. Jon Young is a San Francisco State University graduate student and Ecological Restoration Intern at Mountain Lake.

The talk will take place at the future outdoor classroom at Mountain Lake. Meet us at the 14th Ave entrance to the Presidio (just north of 14th Ave and Lake) at 1:45 PM and we'll take the 5-10 minute walk together. If you'd like to walk directly to the site, follow the dotted line on the map below. The lake is close to many bus lines, and if you come by car, there's free parking at 14th and Wedemeyer on Sundays.
