Planning Ahead: Find Out Why So Many Retired People Are Saying, 'These Are the Best Years of My Life'
When thinking about successful retirement, most people and the research literature focus on financial planning. Although having enough financial resources is generally necessary, it doesn't by itself lead to a successful retirement.
Instead of emphasizing financial preparedness, this presentation deals with the personal and interpersonal factors in creating a successful retirement. It will:
- identify the key factors associated with retirement adjustment and happiness
- discuss how retirement impacts men and women differently
- explore issues affecting couples and some ways to resolve them; and
- offer insights from retirees who have proven what works.
The goal for this presentation is to get you involved in thinking about and planning for your retirement, regardless of your age or stage in life. The point is you're never too young to think about retirement, and never too old to make it better. The presentation is based on a review of the scholarly research literature, web-based resources and Jill Steinberg, Ph.D.'s research interviewing and doing focus groups with over 60 UCSC Osher Life Long Learners. Find out about the website Jill started, MyRetirementWorks.com and why so many retired people are saying "These are the best years of my life."
