Anaerobics - Soils of Mountain Lake

Join us at Mountain Lake to learn about the fascinating properties of wetland soils. These soils provide important habitat to many populations of plants and animals specifically adapted to the anaerobic conditions found in wetlands. Stephen Andrews of UC Berkeley will offer context to help us better understand our very own Mountain Lake wetland areas.

Soil scientist and natural resources educator Stephen Andrews, known throughout the Bay Area as the "Dirt Dude," has been leading classes of Master Gardeners, Bay Friendly landscape professionals, and UC Berkeley students with his mantras of "compost, compost, compost" and "mulch, mulch, mulch," for nearly two decades.

The talk will take place at the future outdoor classroom at Mountain Lake. Meet us at the 14th Ave entrance to the Presidio (just north of 14th Ave and Lake) at 1:45 PM and we'll take the 5-10 minute walk together. If you'd like to walk directly to the site, follow the dotted line on the map below. The lake is close to many bus lines.
