History of the Cosmos (and our understanding of it)

I will discuss our current picture of cosmic history from the Big Bang to today, including the composition of the universe.  Taking an observer's point of view, I will review the major observations over the past century that have led us to our current picture including why we think dark matter and dark energy exist and what observations tell us about what they can and can't be.
