BAY AREA SCIENCE FESTIVAL - Explorer Days - Hawk Talk and Banding Demo

Our Hawk Talk and Banding Demonstration begins at noon, when docent Bridget Bradshaw will speak about hawk migration and identification, and what we do here at the GGRO. Midway through, she will present a newly banded hawk, talk about the banding program, show everyone the hawk, and let it go in front of the crowd. It's a great way to learn about hawks and see one up close.

Registration

This event is First Come, First Served and is limited to 20 attendees.

Directions
Look for the big banner just west of the main Hawkwatching platform on the very top of Hawk Hill. The docent will gather everyone by announcing that the talk will begin in a few minutes. We recommend that you arrive at Hawk Hill around 11:30, watch some hawks, listen to the talk, then stay longer or not, depending on the hawks. Parking is limited and fills fast-please try to carpool, bike, or take MUNI route 76 if at all possible. Be sure to leave plenty of time to park and walk up the hill.

From the south, cross the Golden Gate Bridge and take the second exit, Alexander Avenue. Get in the left lane following signs that read "101 San Francisco." Turn left at the stop sign and cross under the freeway. Turn right onto Conzelman Road and drive 1.8 miles to Hawk Hill. Park alongside the road at the top of the hill, just before the road becomes one way. Walk up the west side of Hawk Hill past the locked gate. It's just a few hundred feet to the summit.

From the north, after going through the Waldo Tunnel, take the last Sausalito exit to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (the signs read Golden Gate National Recreation Area/Sausalito). Be careful-it is a short exit ramp with a stop sign at the bottom. Stay to the left. Turn left at the stop sign then make an immediate right up the hill onto Conzelman Road. Stay on Conzelman Road for 1.8 miles. Park alongside the road at the top of the hill, just before the road becomes one way. Walk up the west side of Hawk Hill past the locked gate. It's just a few hundred feet to the summit.
