The Great Tidepool: The story of Ed Ricketts' Scientific System

The Great Tidepool uncovers Ed Ricketts' pioneering scientific system. For the first time, the scientific basis of Ed Ricketts' popular guidebookBetween Pacific Tides is explained. Based on their research centered on the Ricketts' collection at Stanford University Library, Steven and Mary Albert piece together Ricketts' own explanation of his groundbreaking ecological scientific system. The Great Tidepool was filmed in the tidepools of Pacific Grove where Ricketts himself worked. Using Ricketts' detailed handwritten collecting notes, as well as his extensive card catalogue, the film reveals a scientific system that foreshadowed current ecological research. Ed Ricketts was a scientist who attempted nothing less than to understand intertidal life and all its interconnections along the entire Pacific Coast, and was one of the great observers of the natural world.
