Threatened Oceans - Damaged Habitat & Plastic Pollution
Oceans and coastal waters of Central California are in peril because they are recovering from a myriad of historical destructive human actions and also are threatened by modern human actions. Historical threats that have had long-term effects include extirpation of keystone species such as sea otters, development, pollution, and fishing practices. Modern threats are similar but also include plastic and pathogen pollution, recreation, shipping traffic, and underwater noise. Agencies, groups and individuals are countering ocean threats through conservation, protection and restoration projects and actions. Come hear more about the effects of these threats on the Central California Coast from a panel of local experts who monitor ocean and coastal habitats. They will discuss conservation strategies to protect and preserve marine habitats. We will discuss actions for you to participate in habitat recovery and protection.
