The Slimy and the Spineless: Portraits of Unsung Ocean Heroes

A presenation and student-led discussion celebrating the art of science with authors/photographers Susan Middleton and Josie Iselin.

Both Middleton and Iselin want us to appreciate the dazzling and bizarre beauty of algae and marine invertebrates and they want us to learn the science behind what we are seeing.  They are also steadfast in their refusal to use jargon and to keep the information accessible to all readers, opening up worlds to the non-science reader.

Marine invertebrates and algae live together in the ocean; their lives are intertwined. A joint presentation by Iselin and Middleton is a wonderful opportunity to witness these two realms of life together in an unprecedented and unique way. Each author will give a concise presentation of their own work and field questions from each other and the audience.

Book signing to follow, sponsored by The Depot Bookstore (http://www.depotbookstore.com/) of Mill Valley. Spineless, by Susan Middleton, $50 and An Ocean Garden: the Secret Life of Seaweed, by Josie Iselin, $17.95
