3D Print Jam @ The Tech
Bring the family to The Tech for the 3D Print Jam on President's Day, Monday, Feb. 16! Learn exactly what 3D printing is, make your own designs, and explore the horizons of what's possible with this rapidly developing technology. Most offerings are drop-in and free with admission (fee-based workshops noted below). You also have the chance to win a $600 3D Printer! Here's what's in store:

ACTIVITIES AND WORKSHOPS
Human 3D Printing: How does 3D printing actually work? Play with the same layering process and build your own masterpiece! All ages. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Making with TinkerCAD: Explore computer-aided design! Beginners and experts can create ready-to-print designs, and we'll choose one design each hour to 3D print! Age 8+. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
SPECIAL GUESTS "Your Place in the 3D-printed World of the Future," 1 p.m.- 1:20 p.m. Nick Kloski is a 16-year veteran in the high-tech industry who is considered a 3D-printing expert in terms of technical understanding of this technology – and how it can inspire the world for the better. In 2013, he and his wife, Liza, founded HoneyPoint3D, which offers classes for all skill and age levels, rapid prototyping, and 3D modeling, scanning and printing services.
"Sustainable Printing with Water Bottles," 2 p.m.- 2:20 p.m.
Santa Clara University students Brian Grau and Jay Dubashi will discuss their research in recycling water bottles into a filament for 3D Printing. The project could make an important impact on people in developing nations by reducing the cost of 3D printing in a sustainable way. The goal is to also create grassroots entrepreneurship and vocational training for marginalized women to participate in India's thriving economy.
"Teaching with 3D Printing," 3 p.m.- 3:20 p.m. Dr. Mayasari Lim is CEO of SE3D Education, a company specializing in 3D-printing STEM education. She will speak about the ways teachers can incorporate 3D printing in the classroom to engage students and discuss why it is important for children to start learning about this technology.
