Briones Newt Adventure

Join the Nature Journal Club for a hike to the newt ponds of upper Briones Park. Instead of coming in at the main entrance and hiking up, we will come in one of the back entrances of the park and hike out to a series of ponds that should be filled with newts. We will look for other native reptiles and amphibians nearby. The open grassland and oak woodland also make for great landscape sketching opportunities. We will not be near the cars at lunchtime so bring a portable potluck treat to share in the field. We will hike from the staging area parking lot up Old Briones Road Trail to the ponds near the intersection of the Briones Crest Trail and the Lagoon Trail. Wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring water.
