New Developments in the Treatment of Amatoxin Poisoning

S Todd Mitchell MD, MPH is the Principal Investigator of an FDA sanctioned nationwide clinical trial regarding the treatment of patients with deadly Amatoxin Mushroom Poisoning. This is the first prospective trial ever conducted with regards to AMP and is also in that it is being conducted through Dominican Santa Cruz Hospital, a community hospital with no academic affiliations. Dr. Mitchell practices Hospital Medicine and is boarded in Family Medicine, Geriatrics, and Hospice & Palliative Care. Dr. Mitchell treated his first cases of AMP in 2007 and the clinical trial has now enrolled 75 patients over the past eight years. A method of managing patients under developing world conditions has also been under study with collaboration from hospitals in Hanoi and Assam. Publication is anticipated in 2015.
