The Adorned and Adorning Species

What makes us distinctively human? Religion, morality, and art are all strong candidates. But in this talk Prof. Davies will argue that our propensity for ornament – painted faces and eathers in the hair – is no less characteristic. It is similarly ancient and pervasive. This is understandable because adornments frequently send vital messages about who we are and what we care about. They are neither trivial nor meaningless.
