How-To Nightlife

You're never too old to learn new tricks, so why not learn a few? Back by popular demand, NightLife is serving up a host of how-to workshops, demos, and talks. In African Hall, grab a seat for a live recording of Big Picture Science, a nerd-centric podcast that explores some of the hottest and hippest science quandaries. During this special "How to Talk to Aliens" edition, hosts Seth Shostak and Molly Bentley of the SETI Institute will discuss what we're broadcasting out to the cosmos and what it means for the future of other-wordly communications. In front of thousands of coral reef fish, learn how to scratch and mix with the best of them during a "how to DJ" demo by Washburn Studio. Still learning how to dress like a grownup? Make your very own dapper bow-tie with GoGo Craft. Plus, learn what goes down each time Academy scientists Moe Flannery and Sue Pemberton respond to a marine mammal stranding along our local coastlines and what information they gather with each necropsy they perform on a dead whale. It's a dirty, smelly job, but somebody's gotta do it! Learn how to make your mark with a crafty print- and stamp-making demo from Jordan Kushins and sewing lessons from Chuleenan Svetvilas, of Makeshift Society.
