Pope Francis: Climate Changer?
Pope Francis' entrance into the fray on climate change sent shock waves across the political and religious worlds. The Catholic leader's encyclical linking hard science and biblical passages has prompted a discussion of stewardship across faiths since it was released in mid-June. It has also emboldened critics to challenge the basic tenets of capitalism. Bingham and Fitzgerald will discuss the impact of Francis' proclamation on the debate over climate action, and the impact that moral voices have had on other social movements to abolish slavery, realize civil rights and secure marriage equality.
Speaker: Rev. Canon Sally Bingham, Interfaith Power and Light; Paul Fitzgerald, President, Univ. of San Francisco
