Most Americans will never travel to the Arctic, and few give much thought to the land of Santa and polar bears. But the Arctic matters much more to American life and economy than people realize. Disappearing sea ice is spurring a rush to tap oil and natural gas deposits in the Arctic. Will the rush for resources bring international conflict or cooperation to the new north?
