Community Program Volunteer Organization!
The Education group at the Lawrence Hall of Science is dedicated to making science education enjoyable and accessible to the community. To achieve this, we have developed the Inventor's Lab Workshop, a hands-on, drop-in style, engineering design challenge designed for full-family engagement. We would like to build up our volunteer base for these programs so that we can offer less expensive, more expansive programs in the Bay Area.
As a volunteer, you will get the chance to bring science education to your community by travelling off-site to facilitate these programs, preferably once a month. Typically, these community programs are between 1 to 1.5 hours in duration, with additional allotted time for: materials preparation, program set-up and clean-up, and travel time. Depending on the location of the program, total volunteer time can be anywhere from 3-4 hours. You will receive on-site training and support from our educators and staff who are well-versed in these programs already, including volunteer orientation, supervsed off-site visits, and regular check-in meetings with program supervisors. In addition to enhancing science education in your community, you will be able to put your volunteer experience at the Lawrence Hall on your résumé.
We are looking for outgoing, amiable volunteers with a passion for science education, who feel comfortable interacting with diverse populations. If you are interested and would like to receive the full job description, please email Laura at lksposato@berkeley.edu and consider attending our Community Program Volunteer Orientation being held on Saturday, September 19, at 1:00 p.m. at the Lawrence Hall of Science.
