Nursery Series: Growing for Restoration
Did you think that we just go to our local nursery and pick up the over 100,000 plants to use in restoration projects each year? Wrong.
To kick-off the nursery series, join Ely Huerta Ortiz (Nurseries Education Manager) to learn what is involved in producing our native plant crops each year, including how we collect and treat seed, spore, and cuttings for 400 plant species native to the park! After being raised with care in the nurseries, these native plants will go to the many restoration and stewardship sites in the park, to continue to foster and maintain our beautiful parklands.
You will get a detailed tour of the Presidio Nursery (the nursery growing the most plants for the park), followed by a tour of a neighboring restoration project by one of the Presidio's restoration managers.
Please note: Park Academy classes are meant as a special perk for volunteers, members, and employees. If you do not work for the Golden Gate National Parks, are not a member, or have not volunteered with us in the past year, a donation is encouraged. Volunteer or become a member today!
