Design Principles for Creating Effective Audio/Visual Media

In the Age of the Internet a global community can now publish and consume audio/visual media. But creating effective audio/visual content is difficult.  Even with the aid of computers, hand-designing effective media is time-consuming and requires considerable human effort.  The challenge is to develop new tools and techniques that facilitate communication by making it fast and easy to generate compelling audio/visual content.

In this talk I'll present a number of interfaces and algorithms we are developing to address this challenge. Our interfaces let users focus on the overall content of the story, while our algorithms handle the kow-level details required to produce the desired look and sound. I'll demonstrate how our interfaces and algorithms work together to facilitate the creation of high-quality audio-visual media.
