Search for the Sonoran Blue Butterfly - RESCHEDULED

Join local lepidopterist Liam O'Brien to look for what is called "The Most Beautiful Small Butterfly in the United States." Imagine if you can a small butterfly, about the size of a nickel, slowly fluttering before you like a piece of electric blue foil. That is the Sonoran Blue. This creature is a true harbinger of spring, emerging much earlier than most other butterflies. It has a very limited range in the Bay Area and Alum Rock Park is the go-to spot for this mesmerizing beauty. Many other species might be there with this wacky El Niño: Large Marbles, Silvery Blues, Veined Whites and more.

It will be an easy walk through the park and we'll stop for a break midway through (bring lunch or a snack). Don't miss this chance to learn about butterflies from a winner of Bay Nature's Local Hero Award for Environmental Education!
