New Ice Age Fossils found in Fremont
San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) was retrofitting their water pipes that go through Fremont. These pipes eventually supply San Francisco with their water supply. Since the pipes crossed the Hayward Fault in the Warm Springs District in Fremont, they were excavating a vault that could withstand the movement.
As they dug through the strata, they found bones. Some were recent (Mission Era) and some were far older. The first recorded find of late Pleistocene Fossils (Rancholabrean) were found.
These fossils will be on display starting June 3. Come listen to Dr. Blueford talk about these fossils and the connection to the Irvingtonian Fossils already on display in the museum.
