Green Friday: The East Bay Regional Park District - It's History and Treasures
One of the largest and most diverse regional park systems in the country, the East Bay Regional Park District provides 119,893 acres of mostly undeveloped open space parklands in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. It offers a variety of grassland, shrub land, wood land, forest, lake, shoreline, riparian and wetland environments which provide essential habitat for a diverse group of wild plants and animals. The District's mission is to acquire, preserve, protect and operate regional parklands in perpetuity for public use while conserving those lands for the natural resource values they contain.
Tonight's speaker is long time Sierra Club hike leader Ron Ucovich. Having led hundreds of hikes over thousands of miles of trails, Ron is a treasure trove of history and stories that have enriched the lives of his many loyal followers.
