Choanoflagellates and the origin of the animal kingdom
The presentation will be on the choanoflagellates, the closest living microbial relatives to the animal kingdom, describing the biology of these fascinating organisms, what research on choanoflagellates has to tell us about the origins of the animal kingdom and of multicellularity, and about her research on choanoflagellates, including the use of techniques such as confocal and superresolution microscopy in her research.

Prior to the talk, we will have live choanoflagellate cultures set up on the Merritt College high-resolution microscopes for viewing.
Choanoflagellate viewing (and general socializing) is between 6-7 PM in Room S116, and the meeting and talk itself convening at 7 PM in S110.
