Good Fire Public Demonstration & Workshop - CANCELED

Firefighters

Fire has always been a valuable resource throughout the Bay Area and awareness of its practice has only increased throughout time. Historically burning by the Native Americans and later through a combination of burning and grazing by the Euro-American settlers has helped shaped the grasslands throughout Marin County. Awareness of both the historical and current uses of fire, along with the negative and positive impacts that fire can have on the region, is important to understand because these proper fire management policies and practices allow us to better manage our natural resources and protect communities, both human and biological.

The National Parks Service, Green Gulch  Zen Center, and Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy invite you to participate in an event addressing the role of  fire in the ecosystem, and the cultural fire history of the area. Come and learn about fire management policies and practices.

During the day we will learn about fire history and fire management options around Mt. Tamalpias now and for the future. There will be speakers along with informational booths. Also, there will be an educational demonstration with live fire burning. We will learn different components of fire fuels, fire physics, and heat transfer.

Park at the Muir Beach Parking Lot and follow the signs along the Coastal Trail until you get to Middle Green Gulch Trail and Green Gulch Zen Center.
