The Periphery Project: Walking the Bay – Artist Reception

In February 2015 Lisa Kairos began The Periphery Project, walking a part of the San Francisco Bay Trail each week. As she walked, she photographed the bay and the shoreline, and posted the images online. The act of walking itself serves as a physical tracing, or drawing, of the bay. The bay is the geographical center of our lives here in the Bay Area, and its perimeter is a charged outline of a place. It is where earth, water, and sky meet, where development meets conservation, and where evidence of the past is there, if you look closely. She takes the visual influences from these walks into her studio, and develops art works based on the shapes, colors, lines, and atmosphere of the bay.  Her show will share encaustic paintings, drawings and water media on hand-cut paper, and photographic prints, all products of these walks. You can follow the Periphery Project on Instagram (@lkairos), or visit her website at www.lisakairos.com.
