Teaching Children About Climate Change

Answering the Call of American Children: How are we teaching children about climate change and how can we do better?

What are children learning about climate change in the US? How has their understanding changed over the years and how can we do better to support them on what is to come? In this talk, Minda Berbeco from the National Center for Science Education, will talk about the challenges teachers face across the nation covering this topic: from concerns about depressing or disillusioning students, to attempts by school boards to actually keep the information out of public schools. We'll talk about what is being done to ensure the next generation knows about climate change and how it will affect them for years to come.

Minda Berbeco is a programs and policy director at the National Center for Science Education where she specializes in climate change education, and serves on the board of the California Science Teacher Association. She has a PhD in Biology from Tufts University where she studied climate impacts on terrestrial systems. Now she works with the nation's educators to ensure a strong climate change education for all children.
