Sharktoberfest Nightlife

It’s that time of year againâ€"when toothy sharks and thirsty humans unite for a salute to brews with an aquatic twist.

In the East Garden, sip your way through a pop-up beer garden with libations on tap from dozens of local breweries, including Ale Industries, Almanac Beer Co., Anchor Steam, Black Hammer Brewing, CaliCraft, Drake’s, Fort Point, Pacific Brewing Labs, Uncommon Brewers, and more. Plus, be sure to treat your tastebuds to NightLife’s signature craft beer Aliciella Bitter, brewed by Magnolia Brewing Co. with plant types found on the museum’s living roof!

Hear about spine-tingling experiences “Surviving the Shark” during a captivating talk by Eric Larsen and David McGuire. Head to African Hall to learn about the newly-discovered “ninja lanternshark” with Academy researchers Dave Ebert and Victoria Vasquez.

And what’s a beer-themed bash without bar games? Play a little Berlin-style ping pong with the help of American Tripps or try your hand (or fin) at shark-themed trivia down in the Coral Reef!

At the Project Lab, rub elbows with the ocean crusaders working to protect threatened shark populations from the Pacific Shark Research Center and Shark Stewards and check in with Amyris to discover how their plant based products help save Sharks. Then, view marine mammal specimens with Academy collections manager Moe Flannery and research associate Ray “Bones” Bandar.
