Green Friday

Green Friday staff members of the Center for Biological Diversity will give a presentation on the history and activities of their organization.  The Center for Biological Diversity works for the protection of species throughout the Pacific and Atlantic oceans and international regions as remote as the North and South poles. The Center was founded 26 years ago.  As its range grew, hundreds of species gained protection as a result of the Center's groundbreaking petitions, lawsuits, policy advocacy, and outreach to media.  The Center has obtained sweeping, legally binding new protections for animals, plants, and their habitat, fighting a growing number of national and worldwide threats to biodiversity, from the overarching global problems of unsustainable human population and climate change to intensifying domestic sources of species endangerment.  Jean works with the Center's Strategic Litigation Group, and has a background in the climate change and development fields.  Jean  holds a master’s of science degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a law degree from the University of California, Irvine, School of Law.

The following are the staff members who will represent the Center for Biological Diversity:

Ash Lauth, Clean Energy Campaigner, fights hydraulic fracturing and climate change with the Climate Law Institute. She comes to the Center by way of the North Dakota oil boom, where she organized with rural agricultural communities.  In her decade of campaigning, she's worked to bring 13,000 people to the White House against the Keystone XL pipeline, driven a solar-powered truck the length of the eastern seaboard, and was a part of the Green Corps class of 2010.  Ash holds a degree in English and politics from the University of Puget Sound.

Michael A. Scott, Major Gifts Officer, engages individuals and foundations to develop new and increased charitable revenue. He began his environmental work as an activist in Brazil, where he was born, by leading efforts to protect Rio de Janeiro's endangered Atlantic rainforest and coastal lagoons. Michael holds a master's in nonprofit administration from the University of San Francisco, specialized in raising charitable funds, and developed funding for several Bay Area environmental organizations before he joined the Center in 2015.

Jean Su, Associate Conservation Director and Staff Attorney, works with the Strategic Litigation Group.  Before joining the Center, she worked as a project finance associate focusing on renewable energy with Milbank, Tweed Hadley & McCloy LLP in Singapore and Los Angeles.  Prior to law school, Jean worked in the climate change and development fields with McKinsey & Company, the Clinton Climate Initiative, and CARE International in Madagascar.  Jean holds a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University; a master’s of science degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science; and a J.D. from the University of California, Irvine, School of Law.
