The Joint BioEnergy Institute (JBEI) established by the U.S. Department of Energy in 2007 is a leader in the development of advanced biofuels. Using molecular, computational and robotic technologies, JBEI has successfully altered biomass composition in plants and engineered organisms to produce energy-rich biofuels identical to gasoline, diesel and jet fuel. The production of commodity chemicals from plants rather than petroleum heralds environmental and economic benefits as well as the possibility of producing challenging or currently impossible chemicals using our novel synthetic biology approaches.
Visitors will learn about bioenergy in general and JBEI’s biofuels pipeline through a presentation and tour of the laboratories.
We can welcome visitors who are 14 years old and up.
RSVP Required. Opens 10/10.
