Of Turkeys and Turkey Vultures
Benjamin Franklin did not want to have the bald eagle as our national bird. In writing to his daughter, he referred to the turkey, saying that it "is a much more respectable bird, and withal a true original native of America." In California though, during Franklin's time, there were no wild turkeys. But there were turkey vultures.Â
Join docent Mike Monroe on a hike to work of your turkey dinner, and learn about both these fascinating birds. Hopefully we’ll even see some turkey vultures soaring in the air.
