MicroBioblitz: Lake Merritt

Come explore the microworld of the microcosm that is Lake Merritt in Downtown Oakland with Damon Tighe. The majority of the biological world lives at scales that we can not perceive, but with the aid of magnification we can peer into this world.

We will have many tools (microscopes, dissecting scopes, etc) to explore the micro-world with, but most excitingly we will have a few Foldscopes, ingenious origami based microscopes, to document and explore with. We will also upload any good photographs of the day to iNaturalist.org, so that it will be easy to share what we find with the friends, family, and people curious about the natural world.

The event will kick off with a short background on some of the organisms we can expect to see, a brief amount of time will be spent on how to use the equipment and then we'll dive right into some samples collected from Lake Merritt and its surrounding shores.
