Bioscience for Non-Scientists

This workshop will provide participants with an introduction to the language and basic concepts of molecular biology, cell biology, and genetics - the foundations of modern biotechnology. Participants will learn what monoclonal antibodies are and what they’re used for, the differences between small molecule drugs and biological therapectics, the secrets of recombinant DNA technology, stem cell biology, and more. There will be hands-on laboratory activities with some of the basic tools of the biotechnology lab. Individuals representing local industry, government, education, and anyone interested in science are invited to attend.

THE INSTRUCTOR

Kirkwood Land, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Biological Sciences at the Universityof the Pacific in Stockton, CA.
