DID YOU KNOW? ​​​​​​The Golden Gate Overlook was only constructed 5 years ago, but it sits adjacent to a much older artillery platform called Battery Godfrey that was built in 1985. Battery Godfrey and 12 other batteries were salvaged by the War Department in 1943 and continue to stand today as important relics of San Francisco’s military history.
