Tarantulas on Mount Diablo
Every fall, at dusk, male tarantulas walk across the slopes of Mount Diablo and look for mates, so CCNH is taking a special trip to a secluded trail to look for these adorable fuzzy denizens of the east bay! We’ll hike about 2 miles round trip and take in the stunning sunset as we also look for mantids, snakes, harvester ants, hawks, and beautiful oak galls.
There is limited space for this event, and we will be meeting at a location outside of the park near North Gate Road then carpooling to a small trail about 2,000 feet up the mountain.
