After Dark: Vanilla and Black Field
Experience the complexity of vanilla: both its deep, warm flavor and the effects of its cultivation. One of the world's most popular flavors, and also one of its most expensive, vanilla was originally cultivated in Mexico and is now produced around the world, including the island of Madagascar. However, high demand for vanilla has caused unfortunate complications for Madagascar in the form of poverty, child labor, and deforestation. Get the inside story on vanilla at Pairings.
Black Field intertwines both creators’ inventive approaches to their crafts through an original, long-form film and live musical performance projected in glistening 16mm, with sound sonically diffused across the Kanbar Forum’s multichannel sound system. Both Clipson and Watkins design new ways to experience the familiar. Clipson through masterful use of superimposition and visual abstraction to reimagine landscapes, and Watkins in explorations of tones and resonance often designed for the space he’s performing in.
