Energy for What's Ahead: Transforming Energy in California

The electric power industry is undergoing a profound transformation toward a low-carbon future to address climate change. The pace of technological change has opened up new and exciting opportunities to do business better and cleaner. Customer choices are changing and expanding. Edison International (EIX) is committed to helping the State of California achieve its climate change goal of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 40% below 1990 levels by 2030. Last year, EIX’s principal subsidiary, Southern California Edison (SCE), published a white paper calling on the State to move aggressively to support electrification of buildings and vehicles as the least cost path to meet this goal and reduce air emissions. EIX and SCE are working to build the energy company of the future, one that is built upon a modernized grid, supports wide-scale electrification of buildings and vehicles, and allows customers to take control of their energy consumption. In parallel, this transformation has brought challenges, including increased complexity for the grid as well as increased business resiliency risk related to cyber and climate impacts. This is an important time for the electric power industry and for Edison International, a company with history dating back to 1886.
