Hard Earth Talk: Measuring Green

Before you can trim your carbon footprint, you need to measure it.
Every decision you make - what you eat, what you wear, how you travel - has a quantifiable environmental impact. The methodology to measure it is called life-cycle assessment. It’s messy. For example, the environmental impact of burning natural gas goes far beyond the burning; gas is used to make products from fertilizers to chemicals to plastics. Understanding the complexities of the details behind that chain will help you, in your own life, to begin to distinguish between environmental actions that just sound good and those that make a real difference.
