The Art of Design for Computer Music
What is the nature, purpose, and meaning of design? Why do we bother to design beautiful things? What does it mean to design in the context of music and technology? This presentation offers ways to think about these questions through exploring the transformative possibilities of combining art and engineering to create tools, toys, instruments, and social experiences. It is a journey through ideas and case studies of design, instruments for laptop orchestras, expressive artifacts like Ocarina for the iPhone, and the aesthetic dimension of technology.
