Can you hear me now? A World of Sound in Monterey Bay
Sunlight reaches just hundreds of meters into the ocean, leaving most of Earth’s largest habitat dark. In contrast, sound can travel millions of meters through the ocean - sound travels extraordinarily fast in water - much faster than through the air. As a phenomenal carrier of information, sound reveals much about marine life, earth processes, and human impacts.
John Ryan will share the ocean soundscape as recorded on a deep-sea observatory in the heart of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Join us to hear, see, and feel dimensions of the ocean soundscape just off our coast.
