Biology of the Insects - The Big Five Orders
These well-known insects (Flies and Butterflies, Beetles and Bugs, Wasps, Ants and Bees) represent the five largest and most important insect orders, both ecologically and to humanity. We’ll spend the first few hours of the morning surveying major families of each order, their biology, life history, and importance through PowerPoint presentations and other images. After lunch we’ll explore the garden for specimens, damage, and signs of insect activity. We’ll search for pollinators and leaf chewers, sap suckers, and predators. Cameras are OK!
Please bring a lunch for the all-day option; a camera and a hand lens are optional.
