Mt Tam Docent Training

Volunteer your time to assist visitors in appreciating and protecting Mt Tamalpais!

We are now recruiting Visitor Center and Gravity Car Barn Museum docents! The Visitor Center and the Gravity Car Barn at East Peak attract many visitors who enjoy learning about the mountain and its natural and cultural history. Visitor Center and Museum Docents are trained to answer questions, and direct visitors to activities in the park that best meet their needs.

Visitor Center Docents:
- answer questions, and direct visitors to activities in the park that best meet their need;
- inform visitors about the cultural and natural history of the park;
- rove the East Peak area talking to visitors and pointing out features;
- deliver short talks, demos and walks along the Verna Dunshee trail;
- help with items sales such as books, maps, or T-shirts
- help at special fundraising events - such as Mt Play and Sound Summit.

Gravity Car Museum Docents:
- showcase the history of the Tamalpais Railroad;
- answer questions, and direct visitors to activities in the park that best meet their need;
- inform visitors about the cultural and natural history of the park;
- deliver short talks and demos at the Gravity Car Barn Museum;
- collect donations.

Mount Tamalpais State Park Volunteers are part of the California State Parks Volunteer in the Park Program. They are trained by park staff and other state park volunteers in a variety of tasks that support the programs at Mount Tamalpais State Park. Training requires attendance to 2 weekend training days in November November 3rd and 18th, 8:30am-2:30pm) plus shadowing some shifts. State Park volunteers have to sign a duty statement and be fingerprinted.
