Wild Rivers @ 50

Featuring a panel of policy and literary experts, we’ll swap stories of past successes, reflect on legislative wins, and generate new ideas for river conservation efforts moving forward. We’ll highlight priority threats for the coming years, such as Temperance Flat and the Shasta Dam raise, and emphasize the critical need to engage activists from all backgrounds. With special guest Rep. Huffman in tow, we’ll touch on how “big tent” organizing helps wild streams, as demonstrated in his bill HR 6596, the Northwest California Wilderness, Recreation, and Working Forests Act - which CalWild worked on for five years before introduction, and includes 480 miles of wild rivers.

Panel speakers include:

  • Rep. Jared Huffman, Congressmember from California’s 2nd District, author of HR 6596 - Northwest California Wilderness, Recreation, and Working Forests Act
  • Marguerite Young, board member for East Bay Municipal Utility District, and leader on the recent designation of the Mokelumne Wild & Scenic River
  • Steve Evans, CalWild’s Wild Rivers Director, has worked on conservation issues for 37 years and because of his work, more than 341 miles of Wild & Scenic Rivers in California are permanently protected.
