EcoHouse Tour, and talk on East Bay Native Plant Gardening

Come get inspired and learn new skills at the EcoHouse with a tour of the site and gardens, and a talk on East Bay Native Plant Gardening with Lyn Talkovsky. Begin with the tour at 10am and learn about simple improvements that can be made to green an urban home. The tour includes: Berkeley's first city-permitted wetland / greywater system, rainwater cistern and water catchment strategies, a washing machine greywater system, a living roof garden, organic permaculture food forest, solar panels, on-demand and solar water heater, natural and recycled building materials, native drought tolerant plants, mushroom cultivation, earthworks raingarden, drip irrigation, and more. The second half of the tour day features longtime native plant landscaper Lyn Talkovsky. She'll give a talk and clinic on designing and maintaining your yard with native plants. She'll discuss plant varieties, growing conditions, troubleshooting, and local sources for plants, with ample time for your questions. To round out the clinic she'll include a walking tour of the neighborhood's great gardens. Stick around after the tour and participate in our 10/10/10 Global Work Party happening in conjunction with 350.org's global day of action. From 1pm to 4pm we'll be redoing and refreshing the earthen plaster on the cob wall of our shed. Come get your hands in the clay and learn a little about building with the earth.
