Conversations About Landscape: Reading the City

As we wander through the city, we encounter a wilderness of symbolic markings. Traffic and transit symbols, industrial markings, and historical, cultural, and wayfinding signage all connect us with the dynamic forces shaping urban life. 

Join a discussion of current projects exploring how urban symbols deepen our interactions with the city, connect us with diverse forms of knowledge, and help us imagine possible futures. Led by Bay Observatory Urban Fellow Sara Dean, this interdisciplinary panel will include expertise in landscape histories, landscape design, artistic urbanism, digital iconography, and environmental storytelling (including games).
