Chevron and Environmental Defense Fund Executives Exchange Perspectives in Panel Discussion on the Shale Revolution & Hydraulic Fracturing
Application of seismic imaging, directional drilling and hydraulic fracturing technologies have enabled economic production of oil & gas resources from tight rock formations across North America. The “shale revolution†is one of the most consequential energy developments in decades. However, there are few - if any - more controversial and polarizing issues in the energy sector today. Proponents tout the benefits of shale development in terms of energy production, jobs, and economic growth. Opponents voice concerns about the effects of “fracking†on groundwater resources, air quality, and the occurrence of earthquakes. One thing is certain - most people don’t understand the facts and it’s hard to know what’s really going on amidst the rhetoric. On Friday, April 26, 230-520 pm at GESB 104, Dave Payne, VP of Health Environment & Safety at Chevron, and Scott Anderson, Senior Policy Director at the Environmental Defense Fund, will attend Energy Resource Engineering 218 (Safety & Environmental Aspects of Oil & Gas Production) for a panel discussion on hydraulic fracturing: benefits, costs, facts and uncertainties. Please come join the discussion to learn more on this compelling topic.
