Nest Watchers: Citizen Scientists Reveal New Information about Peregrine Falcons
The peregrine falcon was successfully removed from the endangered species list in 1999. Following this conservation achievement, the Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group (SCPBRG) has continued to monitor breeding peregrine falcons in our region, with critical support from citizen scientists scattered throughout the San Francisco and Monterey Bay areas. These highly specialized avian predators may symbolize wild open spaces, but they have increasingly found a foothold in our urban areas providing falcon viewing opportunities in the cities where we live.
